Ang Babae sa Septic Tank is about a day in the life of three filmmakers as they set out to do the film's pre-production tasks: A brief meeting at Starbucks, a courtesy call to the movie's lead Eugene Domingo, and an ocular inspection of the film's major location, the Payatas dumpsite.
Filmmaking neophytes director Rainier, producer Bingbong and production assistant Jocelyn aspire of having an Oscar-worthy film. Believing that they have what it takes to win an Oscar they devised a screenplay about poverty which they believed is the real state of Filipinos. In just one day, they brainstormed and exhausted all possible treatments for their project and came up with a storyline: The life of a mother from the slums, Mila, who has sold her child to a pedophile out of desperation to survive.
Production assistant Jocelyn imagines the movie as a “neo-realist, glossy musical, over-the-top melodrama and a docu-drama film” which would star non-actors. As they do an ocular inspection of the film's major location to make their film as realistic and as genuine as possible, they get amazed and excited to with the beauty of the place around them. Soon enough, they come face-to-face with the real effects of their chosen subject.
Critical Reception
The film, which according to Cinemalaya's page is a comedy about “misguided ambitions, the art of making art and the romanticsm of poverty,” was highly received and appreciated by movie critics and movie goers.
